Muhammadiyah Welfare Home
We went to the boys' home for our local project which we have to fulfil. It was a Muslim home and the boys were all Malay. They were mostly teenagers sent there by the court for crimes which they committed. There was naturally a sense of apprehension as we were worried that the boys would be rowdy and ill-disciplined. Our fears proved to be unfounded as the boys were pretty well-behaved and the activities were conducted smoothly. It came as a surprise to me that they were cooperative during the activities as I felt that some of the activities were a little boring. In the end, I think everyone had a changed opinion of the boys' home and some even wanted to go back again. It was a meaningful experience in terms of changing oneself's perspectives and I am sure there will be more to learn from the days in Cambodia.
