Disgusted
One of the lifts at my house was being maintained today and so, when I was waiting for my lift at the ground floor lobby after getting my lunch, there was a crowd of people waiting for the one functioning lift. We waited for quite some time and when the lift came, everyone tried to get into the lift and the rest of the people outside were left waiting our lift to come back down again. As we got into the lift, a teenage girl just managed to squeeze in together with us. She then pressed the lift button for the second floor. Everyone was then staring at her with disgust, me included. When the lift reached the second floor, she walked out nonchalantly and the rest of the people in the lift let out their thoughts. Things like: "She doesn't have legs meh?" I didn't voice out my displeasure but I had similar sentiments. How can someone so young and fit wait so long for the lift to bring her up only one level? Surely she can take the effort to climb up one level and leave the lift to people who need it more, perhaps to an old lady who can't walk properly. Affluence had really left our new generation of Singaporeans getting spoiled. If that girl is representative of the generation that is going to inherit our country, then I think the future of Singapore is going to be seriously bleak.
