The 10,000 hour rule
Recently, there is an interesting idea that genius is not inborn but instead down to pure hard work. Geniuses are those that are willing to put in more effort than the rest. The idea is that in order to be good at something, you have to put in 10,000 hours of hard work. It's difficult to visualize 10,000 hours in our minds. To quantify just how long 10,000 hours is, consider this: If we were to spend 10 hours everyday of the year, it will still take about 3 years to achieve 10,000 hours. At our present rate of playing soccer once a week for 4 hours, it will take us 2500 weeks or roughly 50 years. So we will all be old men by the time we become good players.
