Fortunate
Sometimes I look around and I feel really fortunate that I am a Singaporean. Aside from the usual grumbles about GST hikes, ERPs, price increases and so on, generally I am satisfied with Singapore and occasionally very proud too. Singapore is very much respected internationally and with good reason too.
We have the second highest per capita income in Asia, after Japan.
We are placed seventh in global economic competitiveness.
We have the world's most reliable power grid.
We are the first country to buy an Airbus 380.
We have world class healthcare, education, airports, marine ports and so on.
We have one of the world's most powerful women.
We have a football team that just reached the third round of World Cup qualifying.
It's almost implausible that a tiny red dot like us can be up amongst the heavyweights of the world. We've been punching above our own weight for decades already. We have a can-do spirit among us and nothing is ever deemed impossible. That's what I like most about Singapore, the will to be the best. Now, the ultimate dream is getting closer and closer.... Let's get to South Africa 2010!!!
