Roaches
I just saw 2 cockroaches in my kitchen just now. One at my rubbish bin, the other at my cups. I have always been afraid of roaches since young. I bet a lot of people are afraid of them too. There's just something about these insects that inspire fear in us. Maybe it's those hairy legs or those long feelers. Anyway, I've been trying to conquer this fear for some time now. I had attempted to catch them a few times before. I only succeeded once, when I caught one in camp. Therefore, when I saw those 2 roaches just now, I prepared myself to catch them. But as always, I grew a little apprehensive. I began to stare at them and observe them, and grew hesitant. I observed them and admired them. They are perfectly engineered by nature. Their body is slim and can go through small cracks (They often come out through the 5mmgap between my cabinet and the wall). Their long feelers are used for navigation and for smell. They also have two hairs on the end of their body, called cerci, which can detect changes in air pressure. This will alert them to any danger and cause themto run in the opposite direction. And this is a reflex action. It's no wonder it's so hard to catch them. After being mesmerised by them, I got back to task and prepared to strike. I struck out at them with my hand but I am always slower by milliseconds. Those little bastards sprinted out of danger into those tiny cracks which our hands are too big to reach inside. Once again, I have to concede defeat to these little assholes. They are far too quick and clever for me. I just have to hope that I don't see them around.
