Shellshocked
Unless you have been living under a rock today, you will have known that Manchester United annihilated Roma today in the second leg of the semi finals. Manchester United needed to overcome a 2-1 deficit at the Theatre of Dreams and they produced the greatest European night for a long time in history. Roma were whacked 7-1 and they were blitzed within 18 minutes with Manchester United taking a 3-0 lead in that period. Champions perform when the pressure is on and what a performance it was. I was very impressed with Carrick and Fletcher. Carrick scored two long rangers of the highest quality. I've always felt an affinity with Carrick because I see some part of myself in him. I liked the way he passes the ball around simply and effectively and keeping possesion smartly. However, I think the man of the match award should be given to Fletcher. He was immense, bossing around the Roman midfielders, many of whom are world class internationals. For all the showmanship and glamour of the attacking players, it is often the workmanlike players who are the most important to the team. Their unselfish play allows the team attacking players to play and show their skills. Manchester United will need more displays like this to win the treble this season. It won't be easy but dreams are meant to be fulfilled. Especially at the Theatre of Dreams.
