From Saudi to Japan and maybe Italy
I think we have come a long way from the time we took part in our first futsal competition. Previously, we were contented not getting whacked, now a draw is never good enough for us. I think we have a lot more belief in ourselves now and we can take on stronger teams without fear. We got through the group stages today as group champions with 2 wins and a draw with 2 goals scored and none conceded. It's been 8 matches since we conceded. That's 120 minutes. A superb record and testimony to our discipline and organisation. The group stages went quite smoothly except for the 2nd match when the referee gave a penalty for the goalkeeper handling the ball for more than 6 secs. I cannot understand why he said that our goalkeeper handled the ball for too long when it is our goal kick. I was incensed with the decision and I confronted the referee asking for an explanation. It's been a long time since I lost my cool but the decision was too much for me to take. I cannot accept conceding a penalty for such a lame and unjust reason. The referee stuck to his decision and a penalty was awarded. The penalty was struck with power and Fei Jie tipped it onto the bar. It was justice served. Every team needs a hero and Fei Jie was the hero this time. The match ended 0-0 to our relief. I continued to demand an explanation after the match and they told me that goal kicks have to be taken within 6 seconds as well, including placing the ball on the ground. They did not tell me that in the briefing and it was quite frustrating. The refereeing was quite bad throughout the games. The referees strolled around along the touchline and couldn't see most of the action. As a result, some decisions were absurd. Anyway, we got through the group stages and took a break before the commencement of the knockout stages. However, it rained in the afternoon and the competition was postponed. And it may be postponed to a date which I can't play. I'll let fate decide.
To Qinyao and Sergi, thanks for coming down. You did not get to play much but you contributed a lot also. Qinyao, you played well, really. I'm satisfied with your performance.
p.s This is my 100th post and my blog has been around for a year or so. Hopefully, I will be able to maintain it.
