Missing out

One goal. That's how much we missed qualification by. It hurt more than I thought it would. After all, it was almost a foregone conclusion that Science will not qualify for the semis. We've failed to qualify for the past 2 years and the team this year was hastily cobbled together 2 days before the actual tournament. Furthermore, more than half the team were year 1s and we were placed in the 'group of death' again. We did surprisingly well, considering the circumstances, losing only one game and conceding only a single goal. My hopes of qualifying were raised with each passing game and the last game was probably the best I played. Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed cruelly. We were level on points but lost out as we scored one goal less than SDE which finished second. I'm only left with one last year now to win something with Science. This year was the closest we got. I have a feeling this year was the best chance I will ever have. It's over just like that. Football is a cruel game.
